MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has been at the forefront of investigations into the BP oil spill and cleanup operations, having gone down to the gulf numerous times for special broadcasts. On Sunday, she’ll be one of the headliners of Friends with a Benefit, a fundraiser for the American Bird Conservancy, which is dedicated to protecting and preserving birds across the country and, now, particularly those affected by the spill. Maddow will be in conversation with THIS AMERICAN LIFE host Ira Glass. Although there’s not much to laugh about when it comes to the gulf disaster, there will also be comedy from Mike Birbiglia, Michelle Collins, Rob Lathan, Elina Baker, Kevin Townley, Livia Scott, Ann Carr, Stephanie March, and Jamie Kilstein as well as live music by Lucy Wainwright Roche, Barkuna, and Erin McKeown. Tickets for the event, which is being hosted by Scott Adsit and Christina Gausas, are $40-$50.
