You can “Eat Up” again at the twenty-fourth annual Summer Restaurant Week at more than three hundred spots serving three-course lunches for $25 and/or dinners for $38. You can find just about any kind of cuisine you’re interested in, from pan-Latin, new American, Cuban, Italian, Asian fusion, Australian, Greek, Mexican, Brazilian, Vietnamese, and Spanish to Indian, Mediterranean, steakhouse, Chinese, seafood, barbecue, Japanese, French, soul food, Peruvian, Thai, African, Korean, and continental. Among the myriad participating eateries are such new and returning favorites as American Cut, Asia de Cuba, Aureole, Bann, Barbetta, Casa Lever, City Hall, Darbar, Esca, Gotham Bar & Grill, HanGawi, Il Mulino, JoJo, Le Cirque, Mercer Kitchen, and Red Rooster Harlem, many of which have posted their special menus on the promotion’s official website. Below is a small sampling of meals you can put together at several city favorites.

It wasn’t too long ago that the Upper West Side was not exactly known for its culinary excellence. But times change, and the neighborhood will be strutting its comestible stuff this week at New Taste of the Upper West Side, a trio of food-based events benefiting the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District and Theodore Roosevelt Park. On May 27 at 7:30, Soirée in the Park ($150) will bring together Sarabeth Levine of Sarabeth’s, Rodney Mitchell of Calle Ocho, Dennis Petronio of Gastronomie 491, Lala Sharma of Savoury Indian Restaurant & Bar, Scott Bryan of the Milling Room, and Luke Holden and Ben Conniff of Luke’s Lobster for an elegant cocktail party featuring hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and live chamber music. On Friday night at 7:00 ($105), Comfort Classics consists of forty local restaurants serving “home-style fare,” hosted by Adam Richman, with food tastings, wine, cocktails, beer, and live music by the Silver Arrow Band; among the participating eateries are Artie’s Delicatessen, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Firehouse, Gabriela’s, Haru, Isabella’s, Momofuku Milk Bar, Pasha, Serafina, Sugar and Plumm, the Meatball Shop, and Virgil’s Real BBQ. And on May 30, Best of the West (general admission $135, VIP $225) promises glitz and glamour from forty preeminent UWS chefs and restaurateurs, including host Marc Murphy (with Anne Burrell and Lauren Scala) and Haley Fox and Lauren Fox from Alice’s Tea Cup, Olivier Quignon from Bar Boulud, Matthew Tivy from Café du Soleil, Michael Navarette from Café Luxembourg, Chris Wall from Cesca Enoteca, John Frasier from Dovetail, Bobbie Lloyd from Magnolia, Olivier Dessyn from Mille Feuille, Andy D’Amico from Nice Matin, William Sanders from Ocean Grill, Michael Lomonaco and Michael Ammirati from Porter House New York, Joe Quintana from Rosa Mexicano, Jacques Torres, Jean-George Vongerichten, and many more.

Les Halles: Slow-cooked shredded duck rilletes; boneless short ribs braised in white wine and ginger with potato galette; Nutella crème brûlée

Petrossian: Smoked salmon with crème frâiche, dill, and toast points; lightly grilled Spanish mackerel with sushi rice, enoki mushrooms, green onions, spinach, carrots, and ginger in a bonito lime broth; peach crumb cake with vanilla ice cream

Rosa Mexicano: Guacamole en molcajete with avocado, jalapeño, tomato, onion, and cilantro with tortilla chips and salsas; pescado à la Veracruzana with pan-roasted mahi mahi in a traditional salsa of roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, poblanos, pickled jalapeños, olives, mint, and cilantro; flan de Rosa with vanilla flan infused with espresso served on a warm, thin ancho chile brownie and topped with Mexican cinnamon whipped cream

SD26: Wild bass carpaccio, lime, fennel pollen baby cucumbers, and spicy tomato vinaigrette; seared diver sea scallops with purple potatoes, sugar snap peas, fagiolini Verdi, and prosciutto crisps; panna cotta in a balsamic vinegar reduction and strawberries

It’s so cold these days that not even the potential of a hot meal in a hot restaurant can get many New Yorkers to go out for lunch or dinner, but things will hopefully be somewhat warmer, and the streets much easier to traverse, by the time 2014 Winter Restaurant Week kicks into full gear. Reservation lines are now open for three-course prix-fixe $25 lunches and $38 dinners at some three hundred eateries around the city, available Monday through Friday from February 17 to March 7. Most of the restaurants have posted their special menus online; here are only some of the delights to look forward to: tuna tartare, cornmeal-crusted crab cake, Faroe Island salmon, prime beef short rib, and chocolate ganache cake at ‘21’; house-made country pâté, sautéed skate wing, chestnut gnocchi, and passion fruit Pavlova at Artisanal; soupe de choux fleur, saucisse, gnocchi de carottes, and buerre noisette et ananas coupe at Bar Boulud; garganelli in a tomato and basil sauce, roast chicken in a pomegranate sauce and pomegranate kernels with gratineed mashed potatoes, and mousse of orange bittersweet chocolate at Barbetta; New England seafood chowder, blackened mahi mahi sandwich, and Meyer lemon cake with citrus marmalade and blood orange sherbet at Blue Fin; fegatini di pollo, pane tostato, and pancetta, merluzzo in padella con caponata e finocchi, and crostata di mele, merengue, and vanilla gelato at Circo; Long Island duck ragu, eighteen-hour boneless short rib, and chocolate mousse cake at Delmonico’s; grilled baby octopus, marble potatoes, pickled yellow beans, and black olives, pan-roasted Chatham cod with tomatoes, onions, black olives, and capers, and torta di cioccolato at I Trulli; lahsooni gobi, murglababdar, and rice pudding at Junoon; and smoked barley and mushroom soup, pastrami sandwich and fries, and sour cream cheesecake at Kutsher’s. Among the other dining establishments serving up winter delicacies are B. Smith’s, City Hall, Craftbar, Dos Caminos, Gotham Bar, Les Halles, Mercer Kitchen, Nice Matin, Nobu New York, Pampano, the Red Cat, the Russian Tea Room, Shun Lee Palace, Tribeca Grill, Zengo, and many, many more, but you better book fast. As a bonus, if you register your American Express card, you will receive $5 back each time you charge at least $25 at a participating restaurant.

Prices have risen slightly for 2013 Winter Restaurant Week, but only moderately; prix-fixe three-course lunches have gone from $24.07 to $25, and dinners from $35 to $38, but there are still plenty of reasons to get hungry, including peppered duck leg, sautéed scallop, sepia, shrimp and cod, and vanilla bean crème brûlée at ‘21,’ pâté grand-mère, aile de raie sautée, and tarte chocolat et noisette at Bar Boulud, warm prosciutto & Gruyere cheese tart, open-faced crisp John Dory sandwich, and Valrhona chocolate pot de crème at Blue Fin, beef short rib taquitos, chile rubbed beef brisket torta, and chocolate butterscotch cake at Dos Caminos, spicy Mongolian hot pot in steamboat, kimchi stone bowl rice, and chef’s dessert selection at HanGawi, pastrami Reuben eggroll, challah grilled cheese, and black & white ice-cream cookie sandwich at Kutsher’s, classic French onion soup, seared merlu, and chocolate fondant at Le Cirque, fresh shucked oysters, steamed cod, and apple walnut crumble at Lure Fishbar, sea scallops, celery root raviolo, and Meyer lemon chiboust at Nice Matin, black cod miso on limestone lettuce, unami Arctic char, and dessert at Nobu, classic Caesar salad, single-cut filet mignon, and New York cheesecake at Palm One, Petrossian smoked salmon, lamb shank pot au feu, and chocolate caramel tart at Petrossian, seared diver scallops, hanger steak with brandied cherries, and mint Oreo chocolate chunk at Quality Meats, fragrant mushroom broth pork belly dumplings, pork belly bahn mi, and spiced ginger cake at Spice Market, cheddar bratwurst, braised short rib, and pumpkin cheesecake at Tribeca Grill, and fried green tomatoes, blackened shrimp po’ boy, and toasted apple pound cake at Wildwood Barbeque.
