Prince Harry will be making a special appearance in New York this weekend, playing in the third annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, battling Black Watch captain Nacho Figueras and others on Governors Island in a benefit for the American Friends of Sentebale, the charity HRH started with Prince Seeiso of the Lesotho Royal Family, helping underprivileged children in the African kingdom. The match begins at 3:00, preceded and followed by all sorts of VIP parties that cost between $250 and $20,000 and are sponsored by such high-end names as Ferrari and Piaget, but you can watch the game for free, no tickets required, while enjoying food from Blue Smoke and El Verano Taqueria and sipping Veuve Clicquot champagne. (Food and drink are not free.) The free ferry leaves regularly from the Battery Maritime Building starting at noon, and there are plenty of other things to do on the island as well, including checking out Figment’s Interactive Sculpture Garden and MiniGolf Course, No Longer Empty’s “The Sixth Borough” site-specific exhibit along Colonels’ Row, and, in the same area, Parsons the New School for Design’s very cool “The Art of Craftsmanship Revisited: New York” display.
