New York City might never be at the top of any of the annual Most Livable Cities in America surveys, but we all know there’s no place else we’d rather be. That said, there’s more than just a little room for improvement. On October 21, the Municipal Art Society will be releasing its Survey on Livability, conducted with the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, and in conjunction with the release, MAS will be holding a two-day summit that examines how we all can help make the Big Apple even better. There will be panels, presentations, keynote addresses, demonstrations, receptions, and other events looking at such topics as “Demographics of a Changing New York,” “Civic Activism in the Spirit of Jane Jacobs,” “Art Works: When Art Builds Community,” “Resilience, Prosperity, and the New ‘Low-Carbon’ Economy,” “Moynihan Station and the Far West Side,” and “Reclaiming the Public Realm,” with dozens of architects, curators, lawyers, commissioners, nonprofit heads, politicians, activists, journalists, CEOs, and other civic and business leaders. Hey, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem, so go ahead and register so you can throw your two cents into the ring as well.
