Northside Festival Sunday Schedule
The four-day Northside Festival comes to a close today with another hundred bands or so playing all over Williamsburg and beyond, including pay outdoor and free indoor shows. Below are our picks for the final day of this adventurous and exciting festival, with one major warning: Don’t count on the free trolley to take you to Newtown Barge Park if you’re in any kind of rush or don’t mind missing much of whatever group you’re planning on seeing.
Elvis Perkins in Dearland, Newtown Barge Park, 3:30: Indie darling will be sending his fond regards to doomsday with his inventive folk rock.
Harper Blynn, Public Assembly, 4:30: The old Pete and J will propel the loneliest generation into centrifugal motion with their pure pop at Public Assembly.
Shark?, Bar Matchless, 6:00: Brooklyn four-piece played great impromptu gig at yesterday’s street fair on Bedford and should light up Bar Matchless tonight.
Les Savy Fav, Newtown Barge Park, 8:30: The sweat should descend on the crowd as well as a nearly naked Tim Harrington at this show by the experimental Brooklyn punk band.
Savoir Adore, Coco 66, 9:00: Brooklynites know their way around funky grooves and sweet melodies.
MiniBoone, Bar Matchless, 10:00: Local boys know how to let loose for a wild grand finale.
Islands, Music Hall of Williamsburg, 11:00: Nick Diamonds and former Islander Jamie Thompson lead this glamorous Canadian group that ramps it up at their live shows.

Deidre Muro and Paul Hammer claim that they started a band as an “accident,” that they were fooling around with some songs, shared them with friends, and eventually became a little more serious about it. Briefly known as Les Frogs, Muro and Hammer renamed themselves Savoir Adore and are currently on tour supporting their debut full-length, the lush, adventurous IN THE WOODED FOREST (Cantora, September 2009), joined by David Perlick-Molinari (who, with Hammer, is part of YouTooCanWoo Prod.), bassist Sasha Brown, and drummer Tim McCoy (who leads the Papercuts). A mix of pure pop delights and sweet instrumental-heavy tunes that walk the fine line between nature and technology, the infectious album features two of the best-titled songs of last year, “The Scientific Findings of Dr. Rousseau” and “Transylvanian Candy Patrol,” but Savoir Adore is about a lot more than just unusual names (even though their first EP was called THE ADVENTURES OF MR. PUMPERNICKEL AND THE GIRL WITH ANIMALS IN HER THROAT). “We Talk Like Machines” has a hook most bands would kill for, with the chorus of “Early Bird” right behind it. “The fires burning bright, everyone’s out tonight! 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, the starry night’s our disco ball!” Muro declares on MERP, which is a good description of Savoir Adore itself. “Creatures of every kind, they all have lost their minds! Colors flying everywhere, a kaleidoscope in the air!” Savoir Adore is making the Lower East Side club Cake Shop its home this month with a February residency beginning on February 4 with Pocketknife, Magic Magic, and buzz band French Horn Rebellion. On February 11, SA will be joined by We Are Country Mice, North Highlands, and twi-ny fave Uninhabitable Mansions, followed by February 18 with Red Wire Black Wire, Ennui, and the Bloodsugars.

CONCERT FRENZY: DECEMBER 17-18
Bluebrain makes debut at Monkey Town on December 17
While you’re running around shopping and going to parties these next couple of days, you also might be missing some great music if you don’t stop and take a break. Tonight and tomorrow, a slew of bands are playing Manhattan and Brooklyn in a sonic overload that has us both excited and frustrated, knowing we can’t see it all. Tonight, Harper Blynn, formerly known as Pete and J, are at Bowery Ballroom ($15) with Pretty Good Dance Moves and Madison Square Gardeners (who we hope are better than the Knicks and Rangers). Mountains, consisting of childhood friends Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp, bring their minimalist electronic soundscapes and hypnotic compositions to the Knitting Factory Brooklyn ($15), playing with the For Carnation. Brothers Hays and Ryan Holladay, formerly of the Epochs, will be playing their first-ever live show as Bluebrain at Monkey Town ($10 minimum), with Peephole. And longtime favorites the Ks, who are in the studio recording their next album, will be at Arlene’s Grocery (free) with Talain Rayne, Jane Getter, Character Nine, Shot, and the Lows.

On December 18, a friend of ours will be masked and onstage with Fanfarlo for their show at Webster Hall ($17) with Freelance Whales. The socially conscious and rebellious Steve Earle, a truly great live performer who always has a lot to say, will be at the Society for Ethical Culture ($35-$45). And Deidre Muro and Paul Hammer, known as Savoir Adore – and whose “We Talk Like Machines” has been rumbling through our head for days now – will be at the Cameo Gallery with French Horn Rebellion.
