We’ve been following the career of Brooklyn-born Irish comedian Colin Quinn since his days at MTV as the sidekick for the game show REMOTE CONTROL and then on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, where he anchored “Weekend Update” for several seasons. Of course, he’ll always have a place in our heart because of his great music video “Going Back to Brooklyn.” More recently, he hosted TOUGH CROWD on Comedy Central and is a regular guest on THE OPIE & ANTHONY SHOW. The gruff-voiced Quinn, who has always been on the cusp of breaking through, is now on the road with his one-man show LONG STORY SHORT, in which he promises to give the “History of the World in 75 Minutes.” The show, which Quinn wrote and performs, is directed by another Brooklyn-born comedian, Jerry Seinfeld, and is running at the Bleecker Street Theatre through August 14. Be prepared for a very different perspective on our illustrious past.

The world premiere of SPAGHETTI & MATZO BALLS — FUHGEDDABOUDIT takes place tonight at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, hosted by KTU DJ Goumba Johnny. Produced by the same team behind the popular PLATANOS & COLLARD GREENS, this Brooklyn-set romantic comedy reveals “what happens when a nice Italian boy falls in love with a sweet Jewish girl.” Written by David Lamb and directed by Renée Lynette Ferrara, the show features Bryan R. Craine, Michelle Cammarata, Mindy Cassle, Jennifer Leigh Cohen, Paul D. Failla, Jessica Goldstein, Peter Marinaro, and others and is scheduled for only four more performances after tonight: June 26 at 8:00, July 9 at 8:00, July 18 at 2:00, and July 23 at 8:00.

Running concurrently with Restaurant Week, the annual 20 at 20 off-Broadway discount promotion is back, offering theater lovers the opportunity to get $20 tickets only 20 minutes before curtain. Nearly two dozen shows are participating in the program, including Sam Shepard’s AGES OF THE MOON, starring Stephen Rea and Seán McGinley; Delia and Nora Ephron’s LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE, with a rotating cast of women that currently features Katie Finneran, Michele Lee, Debra Monk, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Casey Wilson; John Douglas Thompson in Eugene O’Neill’s THE EMPEROR JONES; Jim Brochu as Zero Mostel in ZERO HOUR; Nina Arianda and Wes Bentley in David Ives’s VENUS IN FUR; and Layon Gray’s BLACK ANGELS OVER TUSKEGEE, in addition to FUERZA BRUTA, NAKED BOYS SINGING, SMUDGE, THE FANTASTICKS, CIRCUMCISE ME, and others.
