There was near chaos at this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show when designer cats joined canines for a special Meet the Breeds event two days before the official competition began. Rest assured there will be no dogs — although we can’t promise no chaos — at the debut of Cat Camp, a feline-focused convention and symposium slinking its way into the Metropolitan Pavilion March 11-12. The program consists of discussions, presentations, adoption opportunities (with KittyKind and Petco), meet and greets, and sponsored booths. Saturday features “Cat Cafes” with Cat Man of West Oakland Adam Myatt and Macaron Parlour’s Christina Ha, moderated by Cherry Bombe cofounder Kerry Diamond; the NYC Feral Cat Initiative; Kitten Lady Hannah Shaw; Mike Bridavsky and the one and only Lil BUB; “Come Meet the People Behind Some of Your Favorite Cats” with @_porkchopthecat_ and @tinaf78; Ask the Cat Expert with Ingrid King; and “Saving Lives: Cat Rescue Strategies and Networking” with Motor Kitty Rescue. Sunday’s festivities include “Feline Design: Creating a Home Your Cat Will Love without Looking Like a Crazy Cat Lady” with Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther; the Paw Project’s Dr. Jennifer Conrad; a keynote address by Cat Daddy Jackson Galaxy; and VIP events with Lil BUB and Galaxy that require separate tickets. Among the more than five dozen exhibitors will be Shred My Couch, Meow United, Fido the Cat, All the Bad Cats, Meow Parlour, Notso Kitty, Napping JoJo, Pussweek, Honeycat Cosmetics, Square Paws, and Two Crazy Cat Ladies. Note that Cat Camp is for humans only; anyone showing up with a feline (or a canine, for that matter) will be turned away at the door, no matter how cute and cuddly your kitty is.
