The Super Bowl might be taking place in New Jersey, but the NFL will be all over New York City this week, celebrating the first outdoor championship game in cold weather in quite some time by setting up shop on Broadway. Interactive, family-friendly events, most of which are free, will line the thoroughfare from 34th to 47th Sts.; you can save time if you register for a badge in advance here. Kids can check out NFL Rush Zone and NFL Play 60 in a heated tent by Macy’s, where every night from 5:30 to 9:30, Super Bowl Virtual Theater will feature ten-minute NFL video projections on the store’s facade in Herald Square; Macy’s will also host appearances by such Giants champions as David Tyree and Victor Cruz in its fourth-floor NFL shop. The New York / New Jersey area will strut its stuff between 35th & 36th with the Join the Huddle Tour and Video Park, while you can film your own “Are You Fan Enough?” video between 37th & 38th. Super Bowl Boulevard will feature daily autograph sessions (with such current and former players as Derrick Brooks, Matt Forte, DeSean Jackson, Marshall Faulk, Jim Brown, DeMarcus Ware, Antonio Cromartie, Pierre Garcon, Luke Kuechly, Cam Newton, and Reggie Wayne) between 39th & 40th Sts. from 12 noon to 5:00, right by a concert stage that will host live nightly 8:00 performances by the Bacon Brothers on Wednesday, Michael Cavenaugh on Thursday, the Café Wha? Band on Friday, and Blondie on Saturday. An eight-lane Toboggan Run will be set up between 40th & 41st, with $5 tickets benefiting MillionTreesNYC. You can make your own EA Sports Madden cover or get lost in the interactive Stats Zone between 42nd & 43rd, take a picture with the Vince Lombardi Trophy between 43rd & 44th, and kick a field goal through NFL uprights between 45th & 46th. The league’s broadcasting partners will be there as well, with ESPN headquartered at 34th, NFL Network at 41st, and Fox at 46th. In addition, a bunch of Super Bowl sponsors will be handing out free food and drinks and other giveaways up and down the street.
